About Me

So you want to know a bit more about me eh? And fair enough too!

I'm passionate about pain-free living and creating habits to improve life & well-being so we can all feel better and have more fun!

With personal experience in overcoming pain caused by too many skydives with a parachute renowned for hard openings, playing rugby(in the front row), physically demanding jobs & tree climbing gone wrong, I've discovered the transformative power of massage, yoga, and other practices.

My journey into massage and yoga

I started practicing yoga in 2011 because I had a sore back, plus I recognized that I needed a lifestyle shift & yoga was it. I got my first ever massage around the same time & I noticed results immediately! Especially in conjuction with regular hot yoga. I quickly started to feel better in my body, and happier too!

I did my first yoga teacher training in 2014 with Tony Sanchez in Mexico, which I followed up with another 200hr training in 2016 at Power Living Perth where I taught yoga for a year, before moving to Wales, where I ran yoga classes out of a cafe & local studio & studied Sports Massage in 2018/19.

I started massaging right away before we moved back here to Christchurch and started Andrew Bolton Sports Massage in late 2019 which I've been running ever since & continue to learn from the latest science and explore the ever expanding field of massage, health & wellbeing.

Movement

I believe in the power of exercise! Yoga, weights for strengthening, having a diverse range of movement modalities to mobilize the body & using various self massage techniques to aid that mobility. I'm always learning more ways to bring balance to our lives & counteract the dysfunction caused by sitting too much, or doing any one thing too much for that matter.

My current movement/wellbeing practice: 5km hill runs, yoga(vinyasa, yin, hot), mobilization with the ready state app, pilates for glutes and core, kettlebell workouts, skipping, slacklining, tree climbing, breathwork, dancing, massage, self massage, juggling, plenty of protein + minimal sugar, cold plunges, rock climbing, “natural movement” inspired by the “movement” community, small hikes, rucking and more.

Ambience & Experience

I’ve had a few massages & yoga experiences in my time, where I’ve learnt alot from many people, which includes the ambience! So I take great care to create a cosy space surrounded by lush plants, natural wood & relaxing fabric billowing in the ceiling. I make sure to have a warm room for you & electric blanket running in winter! Soft lighting inducing a relaxed state, aided by nice speakers playing some very relaxing sounds.

I tailor each massage to the individual, for whatever you need, while also taking into account whether you like deep tissue or prefer a lighter touch.

I love a good chat, and problem solving. But I'm also here for your healing & am equally happy when you go quiet and focus on your breath during a massage, which can also really help you get the most out of your treatment.

I live here in Redcliffs with my wife & 3 year old daughter, which is great fun & lots of work, right parents!? Which makes it a little difficult to teach group classes! So right now I'm focussed on helping you with massage and mobility, working out of my home studio.
